Rocker Mae.

IMG_8619

Hi all!! It's time for another digi release at Some Odd Girl. Introducing Rocker Mae!

Doesn't she look like such a cool super star?? She reminds me a bit of Jem from Jem and the Holograms because of her pink hair. I was a child of the 1980s and may be showing my age here :).

I printed her with Punk Kaylee, and both are so ready to give all of us a great show!

IMG_8620

Speaking of concerts, I've got four concerts coming up this Summer, and they're all in the month of July! I'm seeing:

1. Beyonce
2. New Kids on the Block with Boyz II Men and BackStreet Boys
3. Bruno Mars
4. Justin Timberlake

Whew!! I know! It'll be fun but I'll be broke! Lol!

Anyway, back to Rocker Mae. Here's the whole card:

IMG_8616

How could I pass up getting that sequined skull from Michael's last month that was on sale? It's perfect for the card, right? And I figured that these rockstars must have tattoos, and that bird reminds me of one so I cut her up. Then, I used neon ink in orange and stamped the "You Are Rad" sentiment, which may not have been the smartest thing since you can hardly read it here. It didn't help when I filled it in with pink ink either.

You can't quite tell from this pic but there's a small strip of snakeskin print in gold. Wanted to add to Rocker Mae's bad-a$$-ness (is that a word?! I kept her make-up pretty clean as Kaylee's got the funky kind. Plus, with her yellow tones in her clothing, she's looking a l'il pop-ish with that pink hair, don't ya think? So I added some fake lashes on her :). The papers are really old, they're from a Pirate line. But with all the skulls and the pink coloring, I thought be cool for rock!

Anyway, hope you get to visit the rest of the SOG DT team for more inspiration!

Rock on, peeps!!!

Stitching Love & Arrows.

IMG_8709

Hello, peeps!

Are you all having a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend so far? I'm working today, but was off yesterday, and we had a big party for my mom's birthday. And then, I'm off for a couple days again after today and am still kinda planning on what to do for the actual Holiday. How about you?

For today, I've got a card for Christmas Card Challenges # 26. This week, you are to do some stitching on your project. Don't worry... if you are sewing-machine-illiterate like moi, you can also just draw your stitches. I had fun with my card and used Amy Tangerine's sewing template for the squiggly arrow and word "love." It is so easy to use!

I'm so glad that I actually stitched on my card. I really love that look and always get bummed that I can't do it on my cards or scrapbook lay-outs. But the template makes it possible and fun!

Remember that CCC's weekly challenges are optional. The only real rule is to make a Holiday or winter-themed card. Hope you can join us!

IMG_8711

And, sadly, this is the end of my term at CCC. I've been on the DT since the end of 2011, and I've decided that it's time to move on. I really enjoyed making Christmas cards throughout the year. It has been tough, but so well worth it at the end. I've also liked the flexibility of virtually using any product you want and just conforming them to the week's challenge at hand. Thank you so much, Sparkle, Stephanie, and Alanna for giving me the chance and being such great coordinators! And also to all of you who have visited my blog and joined in on the challenges. I will miss posting Holiday cards every Sunday. :(

Enjoy your weekend,

Dancing Ginger.

IMG_8713

Hello everyone!

Here's a card I made to showcase Time for Tea Design's Ginger Dancing digi.

With Ginger's hair and bib dress, she could be very well from a previous time. She could also be from today's fashion as these trends revolved and are very "now." But I decided to make another vintage card, and found this old Graphic 45 patterned paper. Yes on using stash!

I wish my coloring shows you how her back is concave and hunched over to show her dance stance. I don't know about you, but I'm addicted to watching "So You Think You Can Dance", and Joanna's creation reminds me of ball room dancing. Salsa, anyone? Maybe even a little bit of Paso Doble?

I loved the big band scene of the Graphic 45 paper, but I also wanted to brighten it up. So I added contrasting paper behind (also stash). It was hard for me to color gold but I added some metallic rub-ons aroud the stamp. The picture doesn't do it justice but it's pretty sparkly in real life. And it ties in with the gold parts.

I added washi and a flower embellishment and voila!

L's Christening.

Hi everyone!!

Just thought I'd pop my head in here and blog a little bit.

I made this card for my nephew, Joboogie's son. L was getting baptized, and I needed to make the card super fast as I didn't have much time (pro - cras - ti - na - tion!).

The stamp is from Stampendous, and I just hand-wrote the sentiment.

IMG_8611

So sorry to be so short. I've got an extra day of work this week! I really do need to work on blogging better. *sigh* Thank you for visiting though. And I hope y'all have a happy Thursday night/ Friday!

Felicity.

Good Monday morning to ya!!!!

I know, I know... you're probably saying, "What's good about this Monday morning? It's the end of the weekend!" But au contraire, peeps! I worked this whole weekend, and am off for the next couple of days so you can say that this is really my Saturday, tee hee!

I'm also in a great mood today because I get to share with you that I am now part of this awesome Design Team:

I was thrilled when Angie asked me if I had wanted in on her wonderful artful journey and DT. I said, "Yes!" I love how different and unique her stamps are. They are cute, but at the same time, they have a dark side to them. They rock, and it feels refreshing to work with her designs.

I made a card with her newly released Felicity from the '50s:

IMG_8629

I found this vintage-looking scrapbooking paper (I think it's from October Afternoon). I googled what was popular around that time, and decided on these colors. I hope you visit Angie's blog to see the rest of the Design Team's work. I'm really enjoy seeing some familiar and inspiring names/ faces/ designs there :).

Candles at CCC.

IMG_8633

Hi all!

For this week's challenge at Christmas Card Challenges (#25), make a Holiday or Winter-themed card with candles. This was quite a challenge for me as I didn't own any stamps or images with a candle in it.

I ended up using this Taylored Expressions stamps called Treasure Life and made one jar into a candle. Tee hee!

IMG_8634

Sometimes, you have to improvise. I didn't have any paper with a candle on it either. My next step would've been to adhere a real (small) candle on a card :).

I got to use my scraps too. Not to mention, this was a stamped image that I was storing for a couple of years already!

Have a spectacular Sunday! Hope you get to visit the CCC blog for more info and DT inspiration!

Coachella Festival Girl.

IMG_8645

Hello blog-o-sphere!!

It's time to showcase another Time For Tea Designs stamp, and today, it's all about Coachella Festival Girl.

My cousins, Celestine and Chelsea, were able to go to Coachella this past April. They were my inspirations for this card.

You can see more of the festival through their fashion blog here.

I created the main background with mostly pink floral washi tape I bought from Leenah Loh's shop. I kept it very girly and added a felt flower from Catshy Crafts by Cathy.

IMG_8647

I think Jo captured the essence of the festival! I mean, just look at how similar her image is to what my cousins wore! She's perfect and beautiful!

Well, I hope you all have a wonderful day! I'll see you bright and early here tomorrow!

The Captivating Rani...

IMG_8594

Welcome, peeps!

It is very rare when there is a SOG stamp that I do not absolutely love. And I gotta tell you that I really REALLY adore this one! She is Rani, the new digital release happening right now at Some Odd Girl.

I'm not even part (Eastern) Indian, or obsessed with Bollywood. But Rani is truly beautiful, and I had so much fun coloring her and her sari. I even did a bit of so-called "research" -- that is, combing through the photos on my Indian friend's facebook. She had a graduation party, and almost all the women were wearing these beautiful, traditional dresses.

I decided to color her sari in turquoise. I wanted the shawl part to be pretty much the same shade as the women at the party were not wearing contrasting colors. I am quite proud of the way her skin turned out. I was going for a rich, golden tone. So I decided to go for gold for her jewelry.

I added my usual eye-shadow. But I also added henna to her hands as I've heard that these are done traditionally for big events. The next step was to find the right papers and embellishments for her. This was quite an ordeal as I pretty much combed through all my patterned paper and couldn't find one that was just right.

I needed a poster board for work from Michael's so I thought I'd look over there. I was disappointed to find that although they had a bunch of stuff for Mexico, Paris, or Florida, there were no stickers or papers that were for documenting about Indian culture. I did find the paisley patterned paper though. It reminded me of a lotus flower. And I loved how it had turquoise too. I also added a textured paper there on the side. And added swirls to symbolize the henna tattoos, and some bright jewels were adhered too.

I thought I'd leave the card without a sentiment as I felt Rani was striking enough. Anyway, have I mentioned that I LLLLUUUUURRRRRVVVEE her?!!!! Make sure you visit the SOG blog to see the links of the other Odd Girls.

Featured Digi: Lazy Day Kaylee

IMG_8595

Hi all!!

We are featuring Lazy Day Kaylee today at Some Odd Girl.

Now if you didn't know this about me before, lemme tell/ show you that I love making scenes in my cards. I haven't made one in a while, but since LD Kaylee looks so laid back and she's got no plans, I thought I'd have her lounging at home.

I totally love how Kristy could've put her in sweats or PJs (just like what I'd wear), but she put her in a cute dress. So I gave her a full face of make-up. Who says you couldn't look hot at home? Tee-hee! I especially like her eye-shadow. That's how I wear mine, haha!

I've also got these Paper Smooches' Vogue Abode stamps. I've had the set for years but I've only inked them now. (Ooops!)

So Kaylee's house is pretty modern and cool. And she's got an artistic streak to her, too, what with that haircut and hair color, right?!! :)

I hope you see that the wooden patterned paper is supposed to be her floor. She's got a pretty spacious living room, huh?! LOL. I decided to just leave the furniture and wall white to make her stand out.

IMG_8600

And speaking of scenic cards, have you all seen that there are now digital backgrounds sold at SOG? And if you haven't seen it yet, Katie posted a great tutorial on how to use them.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for a new SOG digi release! Byee!

Some Magic!

IMG_8604

Good morning, everyone!

And Happy Mother's Day!

For Christmas Card Challenges, it's all about a color scheme this week (#24). The challenge is to make a Holiday card in teal, brown, and cream. These always prove difficult for me because I am neurotic about only using those colors and was even hesitant about putting any color on her lips! Haha!

I also colored this beautiful Sweet November Noelle stamp (created by Amy Young) super early and totally forgot about the challenge at first. So I had adhered her on a card, and then I totally remembered. Luckily, she didn't come apart when I took her off.

The sentiment is a stamp from Kelly Purkey. Remember how when I first started card-making, I thought sentiments were a waste and I would just hand-write them? I love them now!!

Have a wonderful day!

Mother's Day.

IMG_8607

Hello, folks! Long time, no see!

I've been really bad about blogging, but I have been busy crafting away on future projects.

This week, aside from the full time job and DT committments, I've attended a recognition reception at work, renewed my CPR certification, & attended a Mother's Day breakfast. Busy week, but there were some great moments! :). I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend too!

So I usually try to reserve Saturdays for Time for Tea Designs. This Girl on Bench digi stamp is so lovely and versatile. Another DT member, Anita, put her on grass. I put her on a park walkway. I got to practice drawing based on dimensions and perspectives. This takes me back to my art classes back in high school and college. I should've made the walkway a bit bigger though :).

The clouds are made by cutting a cloud stencil on just your basic white cardstock. I used some metallic pigments on a piece of napkin (cotton balls work too), and just rubbed the edges of the stencil out. And for the grass, I used just basic flicking motions with my green Copics.

I think I will be giving this card away to my sister for Mother's Day. The floral designs are perfect for it!

IMG_8609

Speaking of Mother's Day, I wish you all a lovely one tomorrow! We'll be celebrating at my mom's with a nice brunch and my hubby said he'll let me sleep in again (just like today!). I'm thanking God for all my blessings, big and small!

---------------------------------------------

Oh, and in other news, please don't forget that this is going on at Some Odd Girl's Ning Community:

There are so many STELLAR entries! I had a tough time picking my vote! Remember that voting ends next Wednesday!

See you tomorrow!

Shaped Cards at CCC.

IMG_8585

Hello, hello, hello!

For our 23rd challenge at CCC, it's all about shaped cards! I know that you probably know by now that I still do not own any die-cutting machine! Although I now have a silhoutte cameo, but I haven't opened it yet!

Anyway, I didn't know how I was going to come up with a shaped card until I dug through my supplies and found this giant die of an ornament. So I just adhered mini die-cuts of snowflakes and a stamped image from the Meoples Nativity set (angel).

IMG_8586

A pretty quick and clean and simple card for moi. I hope you all get to play. And if you need more inspiration and details, go to the Christmas Card Challenges blog. Remember that the challenge is optional, all you need is a Holiday or winter-themed card.

Have a great one!!

Make Something Today!

IMG_8573

Happy National Scrapbooking Day!!!!

I am showcasing a card today and not a lay-out, but I thought the message was nice and clear: MAKE SOMETHING TODAY!

I got that brown paper bag message from Tina of Love. Life. Paper. It was packaging from some cards that I bought from her. But I know she sells this typographic goodness as well. So I thought I'd upcycle it. :)

Afterall, it went along well with Jo's new digi image - Girl Colouring from Time for Tea Designs. Isn't she cute? I love her long hair and I made those markers Copics, although Jo uses Promarkers. I also adore that pensive, day-dreamy look on her face.

One of my best friends once told me she didn't know how to daydream. I told her it was so easy...just look outside the window and stare at nothing but think of something. LMAO!!

Sitting Girl & her Birdie.

***Please click HERE for Some Odd Girl's May Sketch Challenge.***

Hiya peeps!!

It's May 1st, and it's time for another Time for Tea Designs release! Jo has got so many pretty new digital images in her store for ya. You can see her May collection on this blog post.

I got to play with Sitting Girl and her Birdie. Isn't she awfully cute? She reminds me of an adorable l'il girl, just chilling in her neighborhood on a nice, Spring day.

IMG_8546

When I was a little girl, I found a little injured birdie in my neighbor's garden. I took it home and made a nest for it and nursed it back to health. And then I let it go once it was well enough. So this image brought back some wonderful memories so I decided to make a neighborhood scene!

Here's an angled view to show the textures on the clouds and that beautiful tree! It's a pretty simple card, but it is so meaningful and inspiring to moi.

IMG_8548

And Jo was kind enough to make the DT a blog button:

Isn't she fab? She's Ginger, another one of the releases. Love her dance pose! Salsa-hott, am I right?!

Byeee!!

May Sketch Challenge at SOG.

Hello there!

It's the first of the month, and y'all know what that means, right?!

Some Odd Girl's new sketch challenge is up! Just click on that link and you'll be able to see the original post and sketch. Here's my version of it:

IMG_8235

I had made this card for my hubby and I's anniversary. I was originally going to give it to him, but then I thought that I was supposed to turn it in to Kristy first for a special project. So I didn't write on the inside, and instead just showed my hubbster the card and gave him a smaller card with my sentiments and love note. LOL! Good thing my DH is pretty understanding. Turns out I was wrong about having to send this card in. So now, I'm debating whether to re-write the inside part on the actual card OR save it for another occasion. Haha!

Anyway, that was a funny story about the card. Now let's talk about the basics of how I put it together.

IMG_8240

As you can probably see, I flipped the sketch on its side. I fell in love with this image (Squeezey Hugs) the first time I saw it. I just adore the facial expressions, the angles, the obvious feelings they have for each other. I knew that I would someday use it for my G, and the sketch was perfect for it.

I used some Dear Lizzy paper -- that ombre, yellow one with the tissue paper. I think whoever thought of that is genius! I had been hoarding it but it was time to finally let it have its moment! I also used some Martha Stewart heart confetti. They are a bit transparent, and I think their size is just right! And the sentiment is from a stamp by Ann-Marie Loves Paper . It came out black and yellow because I may not have completely cleaned the neon ink I used last time. A happy accident, what can I say? :)

Hope you all get to play!!
