Renate's Birthday Blog Hop.

IMG_0352

Hello, and welcome to my last post for Yumi and Fumi Handmade. It's "Yumi's" birthday, and we planned on surprising her with a birthday blog hop. Of course, this was before the closing of the store, but we decided to go ahead with it... as sort of a farewell with a BANG!! If you hadn't noticed already, we are posting every hour pretty much today!

Try to guess our message for our dear Renate! We tried to all incorporate all of her favorite colors of rose, pink, teal, and yellow. I figured this beautiful paper from Allison Kreft's line was perfect! And that ribbon at the bottom fitted well too! As Ren is from So Cal!

The "P" is from Basic Grey, kinda vintage as it was from circa 2006-ish...

I hope she loves this! I'll miss you, Yumi and Fumi Handmade! Wishing you lots of cake and presents, Renate!

Gong Hey Fat Choy!!! And Farewell to Y&FH.

Gong Hey Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year!!

We don't really celebrate although I am a sixteenth or even 1/32nd Chinese .. but we have adopted acknowledging this special day in January and recognizing the Chinese Zodiac characters! This year is the Year of the Horse!! My sister-in-law is also Vietnamese (who celebrates it as well) and I have a couple of best friends who are Chinese so I wanted to make a special post about it!

IMG_0338

I've got a card featuring lots of Asian components. That beautiful background paper is from Japan, and I bought it at the Rubber Stamp Convention last year. I love the fan, bird, bamboo, dragonfly stickers made by David Walker. And this gorgeous stamp is from Yumi and Fumi Handmade - Fumi with Gift.

IMG_0340

Now Fumi is actually Japanese, but Y&FH always encouraged cultural diversity so I thought of them first when making my Chinese New Year card.

I am not quite sure if you've heard or seen the post on their blog or their Facebook page here. The company will be on hiatus, and so will the DT and challenges. :(

I am quite sad about it. But it is what's best for the company and its owners, Renate and Leanne.

It's been such a blast designing for this company. They have been supportive and laid back, and are always understanding and welcoming. They treated the DT with the utmost respect and they cherished our creations. They loved their customers and of course, their stamps. I sincerely hope the company will be back. But if not, I will always treasure my Y&FH stamps and being part of the Yumi and Fumi Handmade Ohana.

These lovely banners were made by Renate! So amazing, don't you think? Renate always made the best winner badges! And speaking of, the last challenge (#30) ends tonight at 9 pm PST. It would mean so much if you could join us one last time! See more details here and here.

Love,

P.S. I'm featured on this post at Y&FH! Please check it out.

Yumi and Fumi Handmade with Project Life.

Hello all!!   Today I will be showing you how easy it is to incorporate Yumi and Fumi Handmade into Project Life.

If you're not familiar with Project Life, basically, it's scrapbooking by sticking pics and journal cards into little clear plastics. You can either decorate them or just put the pictures in the pockets by themselves.

And I don't know about you, but I love mixing my love of stamps with my desire to document my family's life! This post will show you three ways of doing it!

On this first page, I made a little scene featuring Summer Yumi walking alongside a pier. The page was about the beach so I found a Y&FH stamp that matched and made the scene pretty simple (just like the pics).

. On On the second page, I basically just decorated a title card randomly - still matching with the Summer
theme, of course.

IMG_0280
And last but not least, I take pictures of my cards and put them in as well. One, they can be used for decorating. And two, it's nice to preserve that card somehow. You can even look back and see how your style of cardmaking has evolved!

IMG_0281

There you have it, folks!  Easy-peasy, right?  I love that you could pretty much use the Y&FH stamps in all of your crafty adventures!!

Toot-a-loo!!

Sketch Challenge at Y&FH!

IMG_0243

Good Sunday morning, everyone!!

Yumi and Fumi Handmade has a new challenge today, and it's Sketch # 5! I hope you can play along with us. The sketch is pretty easy, but it looks awfully cute too! I used a more artistic approach, with lots of elements from Leanne's RAK to me.

IMG_0244

Hope you can play along. The sketch is on the Y&FH blog, and there's also lots of DT inspiration. Remember that you have two weeks to enter the challenge. Team Fumi will show you new projects next week!

In the meantime, thanks for visiting my crafty blog!

XOXO,

Challenge 29 at Yumi and Fumi Handmade!

IMG_0053

Good Sunday morning to ya!!

The Holidays are over and it's time to get back to "real life." Which doesn't necessarily mean bad things. In fact, it's back to our DT work over at Yumi and Fumi Handmade, and boy, we've got lots of inspiration for you!! Y&FH want all of us to "ease" in into 2014 so how about an Anything Goes Challenge for Challenge 29?? Don't you just love that Aloha spirit/ laid back vibe? Tee hee!!

For my Anything Challenge, I've colored up Winter Yumi. She is so cute in her little puffy jacket, leggings, and hat! I colored her up a while back, and when I was looking for paper, I came across these lovelies that dear Renate has sent me. (For those of you who don't know, she's "Yumi" of Yumi and Fumi Handmade, and she sent each of the DT members a Holiday Gift pack filled with lots of goodies!! Thank you, Ren!). It just so happens that they are Valentine-themed but this was an accident because V-day is the farthest thing on my mind! I still have our Christmas tree up, hehe!!

The sentiment stamp is again from the talented Suzy Plantamura, and her Sunny Day Doodles stamp set is sold by MFT. I think her stamps are perfect for Y&FH...they are both so adorable!

IMG_0054

I added some washi, some rose pins, and vintage circular/ flat beads I bought at the Rubber Stamp fair a month ago in Newark, California. And voila!

Please visit the Y&FH blog for more inspiration and rules. Renate makes the best graphic icons for the winners.. be sure to play along!!

Love ya!

Happy Birthday, Rosemary!

IMG_9852

Hi all!

And welcome to a very special blog hop for Rosie's birthday!! Happy Birthday, Rosie!! She is super creative and talented!

For this hop, I thought I'd try something different. I have bought some art work from Roben Marie called art pops. They are mixed media pieces from her art journal, and they are beautiful!

I wanted to show y'all the versatility of stamps, especially the ones from Yumi and Fumi Handmade. Fumi looks great on mixed media pieces, don't ya think? I opted to color her hair a little differently. :)

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend!!

Photo Inspo at Y&FH.

Good morning, folks!

I totally goofed and didn't post for my Yumi and Fumi Handmade Challenge last week - Monthly Challenge # 3. I had been sick (already with my second cold of the season - bleh!), and I got confused with the dates. So here's the current challenge for Y&FH -- I am posting with Team Fumi for the day :). It's a photo inspiration (shown above). Man, that room looks super classy and cozy. My mom would totally love that room. She has a gold and white Christmas tree up too!

Here's the card I made:

IMG_9600

I took elements of the gold and white, of course, but also took in the redness of the chimney and the black accents of the twigs on the mantle. I also added in some silver from the presents. I even tried to ink up those wooden tree veneers with silver ink but this picture doesn't do it justice. It's pretty sparkly in real life! :)

IMG_9602

I really love this image I used of Bob the Yeti -- he is so darn adorbs and snuggly-looking, right? He's perfect for Winter-themed projects! And this project of Bob the Yeti disguised as Sulley from Monster's Inc by Team Fumi member, Melissa, BLEW MY MIND!!!

You have until January 3rd to play!! The top card maker wins a $10 gift certificate! And top three wins a 10% discount. Such awesome prizes!! And you guys have seen the winner badges that Y&FH give out, right? They are incredible!

See you soon!

P.S. Did ya see the oh-so-cute patterned paper I used here? They're from Shanna Noel's new line at Studio Calico called Print Shop. Love it!!! These two were perfect for my project featuring Y&FH's Yumicorn (teehee, that name!!). But it also comes with these bold, graphic papers! So versatile!

And did ya notice the l'il mushrooms? I got those from Paper Tales in San Diego! I'm a sucker for cute ephemera that go so well with what I have in mind for my creations!

The rest of my embellies came from the lovely Leanne Poe, who sent me some happy mail the other week. Thanks a bunch, chica!!

Happy Hopping, peeps!!

Thankful!

IMG_9539

Hey blogland! Are you ready to see another Yumi and Fumi Handmade Challenge? You've got two weeks to play from now, and the challenge this time around is a card/ project that depicts Thankfulness.

Since I (try to) work ahead of schedule, I made this card back in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month. As I have worked with oncology patients, I know how devastating cancer could be to someone and their family. It is very difficult to find an image of a lady without hair so I played Frankenstein and altered bodies around. Her head is actually Summer Chuckles and the body is from Yumi. I just added lipstick and eyeshadow and positioned her head in the correct angle.

IMG_9540

I hope you don't mind the mistake of not blending the eyeshadow and face well. Eeeeek, I need to refill my pens!!

For more info on the Challenge or if you'd like to see more inspiration, please visit the Y&FH blog! Here are some rules from the post:

"You can now use ANY stamped image in our bi-weekly challenges!!!

As a bonus for using a Yumi and Fumi Handmade image, your name will be added a maximum of one (1) extra time after the last linked entry.

All projects/cards must have a hand-colored image, "sentiment only" cards are NOT allowed.

One (1) entry per person

All of the challenge rules can be found on the left side bar.

The winner will receive a $10 gift certificate to the Yumi and Fumi Handmade online store. Our Top 3 will receive a 10% discount code to be used in the Yumi and Fumi Handmade online store."

Anything Goes at Y&FH!

IMG_9525

Hello all!!

There's an Anything Goes Challenge (Challenge 26) at Yumi and Fumi Handmade!

Here's a masculine card -- so very rare for me. I've used Summer Chuckles, and he's just so handsome with that wide smile!

IMG_9526

Sorry so short but I've got to work tomorrow!

Thanks for visiting and make sure you visit Y&FH's blog!

My No Black Lines Tut over at Y&FH.

Taken right from my post at the Yumi and Fumi Handmade blog. It's my turn to do a tutorial!

Good Thursday morning, everybody! It's Corinne, and it's my turn to show you the no-lines coloring tutorial! It's super fun to do, but also kinda difficult (at first)! You just take those black lines for granted, don't ya? I love how it looks like a painting in the end, but boy, it's quite challenging!

IMG_9436

Summer Yumi is featured here, and although it is already Fall, I'm trying to get the most out of this flipflop wearing beauty!

The first thing you have to do is get a light colored ink to stamp with.  I chose Malted Milk from Ranger's Jenni Bowlin series.

IMG_9420

Just stamp the image as usual, making sure you've got plenty of light in the room.

IMG_9421

Go ahead and apply color as if you were coloring the image.  Make sure you add the usual shadows and shadings.

IMG_9422

For example, I gave her eye lids, a contoured face, and full cheeks.

IMG_9423

Blend really well.  If you have to, go ahead and keep an image of the black line version close at hand so you know where to put the colors next.

IMG_9424

For me, the most difficult part of the no-lines coloring method is doing the hair.

IMG_9426

I could never get the shadows and highlights done exactly to my liking.

IMG_9429

I also like to add a bit of "make-up" as eyeshadow.

IMG_9430

Then, do the rest of the body parts, making sure you keep in mind where your light source is.

IMG_9431

Finish up the clothing and details and voila!

IMG_9433

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.  It's always refreshing to try something new :).

IMG_9437

Have a wonderful day!
